The problem with fuel purchase data
Fuel purchase data usually comes as statements and invoices from fuel suppliers. These can be PDF documents, text-based reports including CSV and TSV format, or other forms. It's not just the format that vary, each supplier has their own way of setting out the data on a page or line, so to get the data out you need to pay close attention to where each item is. Otherwise you might record a fee as a tax item, or a charge against the wrong asset.
Extracting this data manually is obviously immensely time-consuming and the problem only multiplies with more fuel suppliers. When you have multiple fuel cards, bulk deliveries to your sites and ad-hoc purchases all happening at the same time, monthly reconciliation becomes an absolute nightmare, never mind forecasting next month's costs!
